The Staff Accountant supports the Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) accounting division of Stella-Jones, reporting to the Accounting Manager. It offers a unique opportunity to be involved in dynamic and evolving accounting team that is currently implementing a new ERP system (SAP). This accountant will assist with design, test and integration of these platforms and be a key contributor in designing all-new accounting processes post implementation.
This is a hybrid position (with typically 3 to 4 days per week in the office once fully trained and integrated into the team) and is located at our Brierfield, Alabama office and manufacturing plant (35 miles south of Birmingham). Principal Responsibilities:
• Complete monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process under the direction of the Accounting Manager
• Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
• Compile, enter and analyze financial information
• Analyze key processes and recommend internal control improvements
• Assist with design, testing and integration of ERP system implementations
• Perform ad hoc projects and analyses under the direction of Accounting Manager
• Partner with management to prepare value added analysis and reports
• Keep Accounting Manager apprised of potential concerns and statuses
• Apply principles of accounting theory and use of judgment and other professional skills to determine the appropriate procedures for preparing and maintaining accounting records and reports
• Train and mentor peers
• Support others in finance when needed
• Participate and contributes to company safety program
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelors’ degree (B.A.) in Accounting required
• Experience: One to three years’ accounting experience; application of GAAP theory
• License/Certification: Pursuit of CPA or CMA desirable
• Manufacturing and /or Cost Accounting experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong Excel skills with an interest and aptitude for working with large amounts of data
• SAP s4 Hana software experience a plus
• Manufacturing experience preferred
• Adaptive to changing processes and ability to problem solve
• Effective communication, both written and oral
