WHAT YOU'LL DO
DES is looking for an innovative, design-oriented Landscape Architect/ Designer to help shape the future of the Landscape Architecture team. Bringing a passion for design and creativity, you will be a vital member of an integrated project team contributing across the full project lifecycle-Concept Design, Entitlements, SD, DD, working drawings, permitting, and Construction Administration. Our landscape team thrives on cross-disciplinary coordination with architects, engineers, lighting designers, irrigation designers, artists, arborists, and permitting agencies. It's a highly interactive role for someone who values teamwork, communication, and shared design success.
Work with Director of Landscape Architecture and Architectural design staff during Concept design for development of the Open Space Big Idea
Detailed execution in landscape design, including study models, presentation drawings, and renderings with the ability to bring these big ideas into site specific landscape architectural drawings which can be permitted and constructed
Mentor and inspire through a passion for innovation and creativity
Engage in creative thinking and problem solving through inclusive discussions with project teams
Lead design development and construction documents phase of work
Develop the landscape portion of the project task list and drawing list during the proposal phase
Coordinate amongst all site disciplines, including but not limited to arborist, irrigation, architect, civil and MEP
Project Management across multi-disciplinary projects to ensure project deadlines and production work are completed
Ongoing review of the documents for accuracy and completeness
Manage multiple projects as well as being a support person for project managers
Actively promotes a culture of collaborative and innovation
Requirements Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working as a landscape architect
Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture or master's in landscape architecture from accredited program
CA Landscape Architecture license preferred
Working knowledge of California natives and drought tolerant/ microclimate specific plants (knowledge of Texas plant material is helpful)
Understanding of irrigation design/ WELO including landscape documentation packages required for City permitting
Strong understanding of contemporary design trends and design development
Extensive knowledge of technical construction design and documentation
Experience in executing across all design phases, from conceptual design to construction administration preferred
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following software:
o AutoCAD and Adobe creative suites
o Proficient in 3D skills such as Sketchup skills preferred
o Revit knowledge is a plus Hand sketching and drawing skills are a plus
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Team-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with public and private project types
Ability to navigate the variety of interpersonal relationships involved in the design process from the beginning of a concept through construction with the client, consultants, architects and internal team
Hybrid work environment, work onsite in our Redwood City or San Francisco office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without any restrictions or requirement of sponsorship now or in the future
The typical pay range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 in total compensation. Compensation depends on the individual's skills, experience, education, and geographic location.
