Branded Activewear/Athleisure/Outdoor Childrens designer

Job Description

 

The position will start as freelance with the possibility of turning into a full time employee position.

 

Primary Purpose:

The Children’s designer will work as a member of the Authentic Lifestyle Products Design team-based in New York. They will be involved in all aspects of the design and development of the product from collection inspiration to final prototype development. As a member of a dynamic creative team, you will have the opportunity to bring your love of fashion and passion for design. We want you to bring innovative ideas, a great understanding of childrens apparel, and designing and contributing to a global business.

 

The successful individual will leverage their proficiency in Activewear/Athleisure/Outdoor Design to:

·Research to generate inspiration for the collection

·Ideate and design new styles, silhouettes, and product details, bringing a fresh perspective to the projects

·Partner with the Creative Director and team to work on all aspects of the design process, including assistance with sketching, CAD design, technical specs, presentation boards, meeting preparation, raw materials coordination and sample management

The ideal candidate will possess:

· 3-4 years of experience in menswear design, preferably in Childrens

· Bachelor's degree in Design or Design related field preferred

·Advanced proficiency and experience using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Excel

·Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with a diverse group at all levels

-Advanced knowledge of global sourcing and pricing excercises in building the correct product to bring to market

·Proven ability to sketch and spec

· Interested candidates should attach examples of their work along with their resume.

  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, motivated to work effectively across cross-functional teams at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented and solutions-focused, with a quick learning curve and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, agile environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design seasonal collections in CAD for Boys and possible Girls apparel for sizes 5/6-18/20
  • Strong knowledge in construction of knit and woven fabrics.
  • Develop seasonal products with a focus on quality and price.
  • Ability to design original prints and graphics in Illustrator.
  • Responsible for seasonal CAD Presentations.
  • Create comprehensive design tech packages ensuring all updates are accurately tracked and samples delivered on time.
  • Conduct market research and trend analysis through online and in-store shopping, with a strong focus on fabric innovations and consumer preferences.
  • Oversee sample management, maintain and organize the sample room.
  • Adapt artwork based on feedback, refining designs to meet final licensee approval standards.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date design files across all active seasons.
  • Participate in fittings and collaborate with factories to address and resolve technical issues.
  • Build strong relationships with vendors and mills, managing daily communication to support product development.
  • Maintain Action and Development calendars to ensure timely execution across all design milestones.
